Artistry – 4 weeks – 4 styles
Kick your artistry! I admire artists taking me on a journey, artist I really believe every word they sing, artists with a great vocal variety maybe – but not necessary. I learned about the magic of phrases, the front and back phrasing. I feel the power of groove, time and timing. I love singers who push the band with groove, swing, time. The more I learn about these parameters – the more my artistry grows. But all these parameters have just one goal in my eyes – and ears: to reach the deepest connection possible of my emotional state and the song – in the here and now. I want to deeply connect with my emotion while I sing – the other knowledge – I practice before – but when I sing – I leave it to the intuition. Here in the KICK YOUR ARTISTRY with LAXVOX I want to help you school your intuition – to finally be able to let go of all this knowledge and just sing and express yourself with your song!
1st week: Swing – medium and slow
Let’s practice sounds and timing with the tool LAX VOX® in swinging repertoire! You’ll learn new songs in a relaxed way. You’ll encounter new ways of reaching sounds, and strength – especially needed for Big Band Swing Singing. Meet the gentle ways of improvising like Chet Baker on trumpet – encounter your velvet sounds and let their warmth grow with LAX VOX®. Exercises in heavy swing – using LAX VOX® – we enter the world of different scat syllables. We will practice variations and help you to kick your swing art! And for sure we will go and improvise – just on the basis of having fun and really enjoying the power of “It don’t mean a thing if it aint got that swing”
2nd week: Latin – Brasil & Cuban
What is a major difference between the sounds from Cuba and from Brasil? We’ll use LAX VOX®x to check it out! Time, timing and phrasing are crucial to really get the point of this incredible music. We will connect with exercises using rhythmic patterns by the use of LAX VOX® with our great Samba Playback! Famous repertoire of Latin music “agua de beber” and “oye como va” and you can grow in your sound, interpretation, use of registers, full voice. This journey will be full of different kinds of passion – it’s all about LOVE and saudade.
3rd week: 80ies – Pop & Soul
Let’s go to Sade, Earth wind and Fire! The intimate sounds of Sade’s “Nothing can come between us”, the timing of the backing voices, the difference live and studio version gets our attention. Disco and Soul we will find new ways to reach these special sounds. We’ll follow “girls just wanna have fun”- LAX VOX® exercises help us relax, help us reach full voice, new sounds – and will show us a new way of learning the songs. So one thing is for sure: we will DANCE and have FUN!
4th week: Ballads & Blues – Night Club Jazz
The word BLUES immediately gives a hint of a warm, but strong voice. It’s maybe somehow suffering or bitter – but it definitely has character. We will use LAX VOX® to define our character. Jazz Ballads can be sad, or full of longing – but also tender and happy. We check on timing and phrasing – we will learn from the masters. Especially the contrast of a soft defined well supported voice and low warmth make an interpretation very personal, intimate. Learn to connect at the right point with a real emotion to underlining the lyrics. LAX VOX® can help you here. Let’s go for this journey of TRUTH and DEPTH.
